Terms
Your Blog
Your blog is yours to use as you see fit, provided that you are a PR practitioner, educator or student. And, we desire that your main topic of discussion be public relations / marketing communications.
There are some rules. Not many. We ask that all blogs in our community devote at least half of their content to the discussion of these topics. Address current issues/trends, identify best practices and use the site to talk about these, and other, issues within your sphere of influence / experience. Blogs not discussing the community’s area of focus will be removed. There are many free blog sites like Blogger/Blogspot, MSN Spaces, Yahoo! 360, LiveJournal, MySpace and more.
We do not want to see blatant promotions and self-promotions in the blogs. This is a site for honest and open discussions. Not a sales tool. Yes, please write about your work, if you wish. But, we ask that all particpants avoid turning the community into a marketing tool for your personal interests. Thank you.
Future of the site.
I have every intention of providing this service as an ongoing project. You may use the blog for your individual writings or create one for a class or group blog. Each blog may have many members / authors. Each member of a class may also have a blog. The sign up is easy.
PRblogs.org is a non-profit educational exercise. Practitioners are welcome, too. All of the students and educators will benefit from your involvement.
I will create lists of blogs in the community as it develops. I may also develop a feed aggregating the blogs for easy scanning to find new authors you may wish to read.
If you do not see a theme that you like, please let me know. There are many themes available at the WordPress Theme Browser. If you see one there you like, let me know. If it is compatible with this platform (only a few have problems) I will upload it for you to use.
Exceptions
The main purpose of your blog must be to discuss public relations and/or marketing communications activities. Certainly, you may post personal observations, too. However, the sites in PRblogs.org must have a decidedly ‘public relations and marketing communications’ focus. Non-compliance with this guideline will result in removal of your blog.
You will be contacted no fewer than two times by the site administrators via the email address currently present in your blog’s admin area. Failure to respond to the emails within 48 hours will be taken as evidence of your lack of desire to participate in the community. Your blog’s posts will be deleted and your admin access turned off. We want to work with you, but this is not a site for free blogs on any personal topic you may wish to write about. This is a specific community discussing public relations and marketing communications.
We do reserve the right to delete any blogs created with defamatory, vulgar, discriminatory and/or rude names and or commentary. This decision is left solely to the PRblogs.org site owners and administrators. We will not tolerate excessively vulgar content. I don’t want to tell you how to write, but if the naming of your blog (or the content within) is defamatory or excessively vulgar, I will remove the site. This is an educational exercise. No room for that nonsense here.
Disclaimer
This site uses WordPress MultiUser. WPMU is constantly in development. Think of it as Beta.
Beta is defined as:
Beta is not the final version of a product or website, but it’s close enough to show in public and work the bugs out. (Beta definition | Alpha definition)
This means that the software is still in development. This version is fairly stable, but problems may arise. If that happens, we will endeavor to fix them.
Because this software is essentially Beta, we offer no assurance that these sites will remain forever. If the project is continued, we will continue to provide the service. However, we reserve the right to terminate service at any time. We will certainly attempt to notify anyone that has created a blog here, prior to that occuring. I do not see that discontinuation happening, but think it wise to make the statement.
For now, I suggest that you use this blog to get a start in blogging. See what the software is like and how it feels to blog. Our hope is to provide you with a long term blog hosting opportunity - free of charge. However, with Alpha software, we cannot promise that will happen.
We reserve the right to remove any blogs created for non-PR activities, or by those seeking to use the site for purposes of link spam, etc.
